Bolt on and Induction Kit- the difference?

Postby Taylor182 on Mon Aug 09, 2004 12:28 pm

hey, i have a mk3 fiesta N reg 1.1 but because of the model that i have i am not able to get an induction kit for my car, but i spoke to Green Cotton and they said i could use a bolt on kit instead.

Can anyone help me out and tell me the difference between a bolt on kit and an induction kit?? Does the bolt on kit give the car more BHP or anything like that and does it give the car a more of a beefier sound like an induction kit?
Thanks for your help.

It won't give you anymore power unless you have a performane manifold and a big engine, even then you are restricted.

It will make a louder roar from your exhaust as it has more air entering and leaving the engine. :)

Have a look at pipercross bolt on filters apparently they give you like 1-3bhp increase which is best you can expect from 1.1 and they apparently sound really nice too. But be careful about doing stuff like that to the 1.1 as my mate had 1.1 with exhaust, chipped, air filter, cam and fully ported and polished and it made his engine run really loud, apparently the hcs doesnt like to be fiddled with that much

i had a bolt on filter on my old 1.3 mk3 fiesta, didn`t notice much bhp but it says it gives you an extra 2-3 bhp i think but if you have a performance b/b then it will improve the throttle noise :D

If the 1.3 airbox fits a 1.1, Get one, remove the big pipe and warm air feed. Drill 10 or so 13mm holes round the back and get a new rearbox. My rearbox is a £5 2i one at the mo! Sounds ok :-)

i had a cone K&N with a metal top on my old 1.1, made it sound nicer but didnt affect bhp.

i removed my whole old air filter and box and wacked it ontop of where that shudda been.

You may well pick up the odd bhp but tbh you'll be lucky if you can notice it. the big restriction in your 1.1 is most likely the cat.

I do notice the difference on my 1.1 with K&N bolt-on kit - poorer cold starting.

Probably running a bit lean if you haven't adjusted it.
