Postby danfezSi on Thu Oct 23, 2003 6:56 pm

silly question but

apart from looking cool what do the bonnet vents actually do on a rs turbo??

i got 1 and ive smoothed it nicely for my si.

is it gonna cool owt down??? noticed the vents will sit close to my piperx induction filter so will cool air flow thru it more???

cheers :D

The air won't flow into the bonnet, but will drag hot air out.

Ade posted a little while back that the standard bonnet and turbo bonnet didn't make a difference on his frst

will a turbo bonnet fit a mk3.5 fiesta 1.6si? cuz the si generates a dam high amout of heat so any additional cooling would be excellent?
1.6 si

Whats meant to happen with bonnet vents :

Your bonnet works, in theory, like a wing and faster moving air moves over the curve of the bonnet, (it's faster as it has to cover more distance because of the curve) and slower air travels into your engine bay. The faster moving air, over the curve, causes a low pressure and the slower air, moving through your engine bay, is of a higher pressure. As we all know, high pressure air moves to low pressure.................this is where the vents come in and allow the air to travel through the bonnet thus taking hot air out with it and cooling the engine bay................ thats the theory.

Im not just a pretty face ;)

If it didnt so something Ford wouldnt have bothered!

Plus RS engines get hot very quickly, probably down to the smaller radiators, but the vents can help suck some heat out.

i imagine a lot of fords reason for the vents was to distinguish between frst and 2i, they are very similar cars and ford seem to have tried to make differentiate the two without having to spend money re-designing any bumpers or anything major

Ford Designer type Bloke :f**k em stick some vents in the bonnet on the turbo. and leave the spoiler a s**t black on the 2i. Oh and green stripes, and 3 spokes on the turbo - in 5 years theyll be the bomb on cavaliers, lets get in early
