:-? What exactly does this mean as i hear loadsa people saying they got there engine "bored out" e.g. a 1.6 bored out to a 1.8. Also what is involved in this and how much does it cost. :-?

basicully the bores that the pistons sit in are machined out to go slightly larger which therefore increases the CC of the engine. so when sum1 says they've had there 1.6 bored out to 1.8 it means that they raised the CC rating by 200cc's which means that they've got a slightly more powerful engine.

You cant bore out to much metal tho otherwise the sides of the block become to thin and cant take the increased pressure so u cant bore out a 1.6 to a 2.0 for example!

As for the costs they vary depending on where ya go and who does it, price wise I havent got the faintist, but it aint gonna be cheap, u'll be needing new pistons to fill the new bore size etc which basicully means the whole engine needs to be totally stripped down!
