brake fluid dot 4 or 5?

Postby fiestasiphil on Sun Jan 27, 2008 2:07 pm

hi i'm rebuilding my fietsa si atm which is having a 2.0 zetec conversion, well i have fitted brand new cosworth brake set up on the front and new brand new rear drums shoes, cylinders etc and goodrich braided hoses front and rear, i want to flush all the old brake fluid out and put new fluid in....ive heard dot 5 grade is good as it has a higher boiling point, but is there much point? would dot 4 more more than good enough what advantages would i notice between the 2?

cheers phil

dot 5 is offers more resistance to boiling due to the higher boiling point, so less chance of bubbles forming in the system.

i always use castrol super dot 4 tho in my cars and have never had a problem, it is equivalent to dot 5.1 but doesnt soak in moisture like dot 5.1
