Brake upgrade advice

Postby adz on Thu Jan 19, 2006 12:00 am

Whats the best route to go down for a brake upgrade?

i hav 14" alloys but need the brakes to be good for 250bhp eventually

however i havnt bought the wheels yet so if there really isnt any other way of doing it i will go for 15's

cheers guys

Cossie 4x4 front callipers and discs using a quality pad such as Mintex (not EBC). The standard drums are quite up to the job in hand. This is teh setup my mate uses on his ZT Fes and it stops very well. Good tyres will aid things as well. 15" rims are a must and the Cossie conversion can be quite tight on some 15's so choose carefully.

If you have ABS it's worth filing that away in the parts bin as well

If you are going to the hassel of building a 250bhp motor why nutsack all the work up by having it so low it's likely to kill you the first time you stick it into a bend. The engine will need reigning in so a decent wheel and tyre package, brakes and suspension set up are an absolute must

freak-power on here might be trying out a front brake upgrade kit, consisting of a braket carrying two front brake calipers! so you could PM him. . other than that the cossie or possibly mondeo V6 brakes would be the obvious choice :) HTH

Why not try Rally Design? They do the complete range of Wilwood calipers, along with a wide variety of discs, mounting bells, and also, caliper mounting brackets. Speak to them and see if they have anything off the shelf like a 260mm discs kit with 4-pot calipers, or if something could be made up. Might be worth a try :)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 8036891217 - another option, 15" needed though...

These are on the 3.5" bolt centres, since when did Ford use 3.25" on front wheel drive stuff???!! New one on me! (3.25 = Mk1/2 Escort and Princess etc etc etc)
