Brakes quiery

Postby niracka on Mon Apr 21, 2008 8:49 pm

Hey guys I just need a little advice on my brakes.

I need to replace the front brake pads on my 1.8 focus and I'm not sure which pads to go for.

I have been looking at some mintex brake boxes which include new disks and pads. Or for around about the same money a set of greenstuff, blackdiamond or pagid performance pads.

Basicly I'm just not sure weather I would be better off getting new disks or not. My current disks are fine (not warped or anything) but I'v heard it is best to change disks and pads at the same time for the best performance. So what I'm asking is would it be better to keep my current disks and use performance pads or to replace the lot with oe standard kit??

any help much appriciated guys :)

Just get standard branded pads, Mintex, Dephi etc. If your discs are not worn, Don't replace them!

From where? I need to change the EBC greens that are in my car as they are useless!

Was going to go for standard cheapo mintex!

Nice one guys thanks for the advice. You'v probably saved me some money.

Would it be worth upgrading to drilled and grooved disks in the future at all or just wait until i can get my hands on bigger st170 conversion???

The purpose of drilling and grooving the brakes is to disperse the heat better, and reduce fade. If you are constantly on the brakes and experiencing brake fade then they would be recommended, but from experience, normal vented brakes are fine on track, so ive never seen the need for drilled or vented discs.

Drilled crack and grooved make stupid noise.

IMO, Keep standard brakes, whether that be the standard ones you have or a standard ST170 setup!

Well in a perfect world I'd have a set of ap 4 pots on there and a whopping great turbo to give a reason for having them but hey thats just wishfull thinking at the moment.

I have just ordered a set of mintex pads for £11 plus £8 postage from ebay and am just staying with the standard disks.

I'v really had no problems with the standard set up in the past so unless I get a much more powerfull car and start driving alot faster I doubt I need anything more than that.
