Brakes upgrade

Postby Paul_16v on Tue Aug 30, 2005 6:30 pm

Hi, right i got my brakes serviced a few weeks ago by a rediculously overpriced garage.

They want to charge me:

* Reccommende brake fluid change (Contains moisture?) - £29.40

* Front discs and pads worn close to minimum limit - Discs: £50.11
Pads: £58.59

I know for a fact that kinda takes the pee a bit, so i'm wondering what can I get for that price??

I'd be wanting to spend around £100 all together, what would you lot reccommend? My car is a MK3.5 1.6 Si.

I've seen these Brembo disks which are a good price?? Should i go for them?

Also what is the difference between vented, grooved and drilled disks???

Right enough of the questions....

Any help is much appreciated....

Paul..

Brakes

Hi mate. I agree that the prices that the garage want to charge you are OTT. I have got exactly the same car as your self and have gone through the same things concerning the brakes. Right the difference between disc's are solid= s**t. Vented= better. Cross drilled and groved= ultimate as they get rid of heat build up and brake dust quicker. On my car i have Black Diamond cross drilled and grooved discs with matching pads, admittadly not the cheapest(around £100 for both) but the main thing to improve performance is to fit braided brake hoses(BF Goodrich £36 for 4)and then update your brake fluid with DOT 5.1 about a litre and a half is this maximum you need. Do all of this as i have done and you won't have to worry any more. My brakes are supurb and the wear life of the pad's is very good. I had over 35000 miles from my first set and i am the last of the late brakers and do use them. I hope this help's you and if you need to know anything else then send me a message. :)

AS the chap above said.

Black Diamond are the way to go, Id stick to grooved disc only with fast road pad, stick to dot 4 fluid...5.1 is not really needed in your case.

Pm me for a quote for all the pads required.
