Postby m3lee on Mon Oct 15, 2007 7:42 pm

right iv got some mondeo v6 brakes, i want to fit them to my N reg RS1800.
is there any mods that need to be done other than biger wheels.

iv looked on here and some people are saying they go on with no mods others are saying about drilling the hub and specing them out.

what about st170 brakes. do you need to do any mods to fit them.

will i need to change the master if i fit ether of these brakes.

thanks lee

no they will work fine with the fiesta servo most put a mk5 escort one in just for the extra pressue you gain with a bigger servo = bigger vacume = more pedal pressure but means a bit of dodging to fit and as a halford employing i can say bodge once live once

you only need to space it if u use the wrong disc as i can rember this means you need cossy disc 4x4 if im right dont shoot me if im wrong

in my opnion the mk5 servos are s**t i have one in my saphire with full uprated fiesta rs calipers and they take loads more pressure for crap response my fiesta servo was far far better maybe weight but id say braided lines dot 4.2 or 5.2 fluid from halfords and bobs you unclke fanies your ant a bobs the local butcher if u need anymore help ring halfords kirkstall ask for sean after 12pm mind

and i can fit steros to if u needing a new one fitting :P lol :P ps rs tango has a mint car he's sound as are the 2 capri owners i now know 2.1pinto's but i think hcs sounds btter
2.1 Went BANGGGGG now a Ghia 1800

DOT 4 fluid is more than fine. You do not need to swap the brake fluid type to anything else this is a misconception bandied about by the clueless who fail to realise brake fluid is hyrgroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air) and should be replaced every 2 years. They knee jerk that the brakes aren't good and upgrading the fluid is the answer. You can if ou want fork out for something like Castrol SRF but for your application it would be a complete waste of time and money.

I've not used V6 calipers myself on the Fiesta only Cosworth calipers which necistate the use of 4x4 278mm Cossie discs. The v6 items may require a different disc.

Dave ran with a Sevro swap to his old Fiesta and it worked superbly well. Bigger servo = less pedal pressure for the same mechanical leverage

Mondeo V6 (278mm) callipers are exactly the same as the cossie 4x4 callipers..
the difference in these setup are the discs.
Mondeo v6 (cougar v6) discs measure 278mm (diameter) 24mm (thickness of the disc itself) and 47mm (height of disc incl bell.)
Cossie 4x4 disc measure 278mm, 24mm, 35,5 (or 36mm depending on year of built) ..

Difference is the offset (height) of the disc, incl bell.

To fitt the cossie 4x4 discs you'll need to space out the calliper by about 6mm
To fit the mondeo v6 disc you'll need to space out the disc by about 5mm

If you can see.. the 6+5mm = 11mm exactly the difference in height of the disc incl bell.. (47-36 = 11mm)
there are some pro's and con's about both options.. which i won't talk about here..
I did choose for the mondeo disc setup.. as otherwise i had to space my alloy out by more then 10mm to have it run without catching the calliper..
The negative part was.. i had no centering hub .. and my alloy wasn't centred correctly anymore..
I managed to get hold of a set of wheel spacers (alloy) of 5mm thick with 4x108 holes and with a 65mm centre hole which i had reworked to a diameter of 130mm (every company that can machine brake discs so they are straight again .. can machine the wheel spacer) .. and now fits between the hub and the disc..
No problems..
Is it dangerous ?? it's as safe as using 5mm spacers between disc and wheel..
