brakes

Postby jimt on Fri May 30, 2008 7:03 pm

If this has already been covered I apologise.
Will st150 front brakes fit a 1992 mk3 xr2i. Are spacers needed. What discs will fit ( prefer less than 280)
If not will sierra 2.8i calipers fit & what discs will fit? It is running on 15" wheels.
Also what master cylinder is recommended, will the standard xr2i be suitable?
Thanks, Jim

st150 are 278mm, both discs and calipers should be a straight fit although youll need to use the fiesta caliper bolts as the st ones are a tad too long :)

Is there any performance difference between 4x4 Cosworth brakes and ST150s? Or is it just a matter of whatever you can get hold of the cheapest?

ST150's are a lot cheaper to look after as the discs etc don't cost an arm and a left bollock

Thanks all for your help. After seeing orianoco's photo I think that I will go back to the drawing board, possibly cutting down Escort xr3i discs to fit sierra 4x4 calipers (which I have got) or upgrade the standard brakes with greenstuff pads & drilled & grooved discs.

You'd do better putting a pair of Mars bars in your calipers than Greenstuff pads, the compound is shocking to say the least.

sure oranocos pic is tight, but it really depends on your wheel, here are my 278mm ST brakes under my 15s.

Im just about to aquire some ST150 front brakes. Im now in relief knowing that they fit ok.

DONT touch greenstuff pads, my RS had some when I bought it, I took them off to inspect them and the pad was comming of the backing plate. I then replaced them with a set of Ford pads (using my grooved discs) and they were spot on.
