Braking Question - Mk1?

Postby James-UK on Tue Oct 21, 2003 8:12 pm

I'm donating my mk1 to my mother for a bit it's all running fine etc etc but it needs new discs & pads.. Now, i would like to fit XR2 discs & pads, i have all i need to physically make it fit but should i really change the master cylinder? I know i should along with servo and rear cylinders but is there a techicnal need to fit the XR2 master cylinder?

When you fit bigger front callipers do you uprate the master cylinder? - i.e. Cosworth Callipers and the alike?

nah not really the XR2 brakes are not much bigger than standard so the brake pedal effect will roughly be the same. But new brakes will feel good when new.

afaik on mk2s the only diff is the width of disk (vented) and the width of caliper, the pistons look about the same.

you considered mk2 brakes? im pretty sure theyll fit, mk1/mk2 its like mk4/mk5, mostly same car

Thats never been a caliper :o

Ive got 1.1 esque brakes on mk mk2 and they look much bigger than that, but they still overheat after about 100yards :S

I got Xr2 Calipers in garage ready to go on just nneed some disks
