zetec si`s are a Bic™ cos of power steering and i hate doin them, remember that £200 will include cambelt kit which is sommat like £70+vat, if u don`t know wot your doin wots cheaper, gettin a belt changed at a garage with warenty, or doin it yourself with the chance of gettin it wrong, belt tension, and wrecking the engine.

My dad was talking to his mate whos a mechanic at Bristol street ford.

First he tells my dad to get me to buy a 1.4 Si instead of a 1.6. I dont think so matey.

Anyway he told my dad for a 1.6 Si, ford do the cambelt and all the other bits and pieces associated with it for £150, and then this gives a warranty incase the belt goes and fucks up the engine.

Hmm yes I agree If you are not confident then get a garage to do it to be on the same side. My point was that £150 seems a bit steep tp me to change a belt that costs £16 at best. The kit someone referred to is only a spring for tensioning the belt so I can't believe even Ford can charge £70 for a kit.

So if you want to pay £150-£200 for a main Ford dealer and want the assurance of warranty etc then that's fine all I was saying was that it's not that hard a job for someone reasonably competent with spanners etc. Probably also worth shopping around smaller garages as I reckon a belt change more reasonable price should be around £90-£100.
