Cams and exhaust manifold for rs1800

Postby Big_Phil on Sat Jul 25, 2009 4:02 pm

Looking for a bit of help into what manifold and cams i should be getting for my rs1800. I want going to turbo it but insurance company said no =/.

I've been looking around a fair bit and can't seem to find a good manifold or cams. Ebay has a fair few different manifolds Ashley being one of them, but i've heard a few bad things about these. All the other company's i've never heard of and claim wild increases of 10bhp.

Just wondering if anyone had any guidence?

You can get your own cams reprofiled for circa £200.

hi,
if you know a good welder then a standard ST170 Focus manifold fits.. which is a million times better than the s**t cast manifold that was on my RS1800..

Cheers people. Would getting new cams be any better than re-profiling?

What about getting it running in a megasquirt, and mate of mine said i should see good gains from that?

If the maegasquirt is mapped right you will see good gains, it allows the map to be completely tailored to the mods fitted and extract the maximum potential from them.

i agree 100%.. i run megasquirt on my RS1800 as the standard ECU is "slow reving" but now the engine pulls really strong in all gears at any speed. I would recommend getting it. I have the number of someone to build the ecu and "live map" it if you get one.
