Can Anyone?......... Zetec Turbo

Postby Mikey_Bwoy on Fri Mar 16, 2007 12:22 pm

Hello there,

I'm new on here, only registered last night, but have often browsed this forum for bits and pieces.

Never signed up before because I have an Escort, and not a Fiesta, but this forum is by far the best when it comes to Zetec Turbo talk, there's a lot of pie in the sky on other forums, but there's plenty of people on here who it seems have actually done the Zetec Turbo thing.

Anyway, what I'd like to know is this.....

Is there anyone in the West Midlands sort of area who can build Zetec Turbos?

I'm looking into possibly buying a complete engine set-up if a nice spec one comes along at the right price. If it doesn't, I'm just going to get my own engine built up to a fairly decent spec on a budget.

I've chatted quite a lot with a guy who is friends with Ahmed Bayjoo, and with a little help from him, he built a 230-ish BHP 1800cc Zetec Turbo for about £2800 and that would be ideal.

I have a spec list for that engine, and wouldn't mind one built to the same sort of standard, so does anybody know of anyone with the know-how in this sort of area?

Thanks,

Mike

Area Six / Fiesta Frenzy are the aboslute Zetec Turbo masters. I would asume that £2800 doesn't include the management and mapping so allow at least an additional £1500 on top of that price. Especially as in the Escort you are stuck with Bosh KE-Jetronic management.

The guy used a Megasquirt ECU, and did a lot of the mapping himself, which Ahmed then finished off. Obviously, I'd be paying someone to do all my mapping for me, but I can get Megasquirt for a very favourable price

Yes, I have heard a lot of good things about them

Thank you

MegaSquirt is a bit cheap and cheerful with no dealer network to back you up if things go pearshaped. I really wouldn't want to trust a £3,000 engine build to something that cheap.

They seem very popular amongst the kit car builders, although I am swinging towards going for Pectel T2. Do it once, do it right etc

A friend of mine who teaches engine mapping was trying to explain the floors to MegaSquirt but I have to be honest and say I didn't have a clue what he was talking about :oooh:

Megasquirt is pretty good.. in some ways it's better than a lot of other aftermarket ECU's.. You're never going to get the driveability of an OEM Ford ECU though.. then again, depending on your mapper :aviator:, you could get it pretty close!

I have run 400 bhp £3000 engines on MS with no worries. Cheap does not mean crap! :x

No different inside in terms of components to an omex or DTA unit.

The only un reliable thing about MS is it tends to be mapped by people with a whole range of abilities and the not so clever ones often get it very wrong.

Mikey_Bwoy - Hello sir and welcome. I was once a member of FEOC and remember you and your car, it was VERY nice just a pitty you had to strip it. The magazine feature done it alot of justice and made it look fantastic!
