Can it be done ?, please help....

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

Postby hellraiser on Wed May 09, 2001 2:35 pm

Can anyone tell me if it possible to fit a 1.8 or a 2.0 litre 16v Mondeo engine into a 1996, 1.25 Zetec Fiesta.

The car is mint and I have spent a lot of money on it (wheels, etc), and as nippy as it is I would like to put a bigger engine in it rather than buy another car.

If this will not fit, what will ?

i am no expert but it's a cross between the CVH and the Zetec engine consisting of a zetec bottom end with the 8 valve cvh head and so on

and i am sure that you could fit a 2 litre mondeo engine in there i would be suprised if you couldent

Best bet is get a good bottom end from a Mondeo Zetec 2.0 16v and a good 1.6 8v RS Turbo. It's an easy job and will give you a very quick car.

Another alternative is what I'm doing at the moment is get a new (or good) Mondeo Zetec 2.0 16v and turbo that (but this job is hard and expensive - you'll have to mod the lump aswell to strengthen it for extra boost).

It all depends on how much you have to spend. I would get a well known and trusted tuning centre to do the conversion for you unless you know alot yourself otherwise you will get major problems (a mate of mine got a cheap garage to turbo his, the turbo stuck and the head cracked and ruined the entire power train).

if you want something nice and easy why not pick another mk4/5 fiesta engine - both the 1.4 and the 1.6 zetec-s engine are a fair bit quicker standard than the standard 1.25. i reckon this would be the easiest option, not the fastest, but the easiest

Dont go for the ZVH , as well as being really old fashiond it would never meet the required emmissions for your car - your car runs EECV as appsoed to the early EECIV on the CVH.

You would be far better going for the full 16v unit and leaving the old cvh out of it.

You will need the ECU from an EECV mondeo which will plug straight inot your loom - unfortunately you will have to get the Mondeo ECU progeammed toa ccept your door keys. This costs £70

Does this mean that a 2.0 litre or a 1.8 litre zetec mondeo engine will fit without too many probs. Is most of the wiring the same or similar ? I suppose the Mondeo gearbox would fit and what about driveshafts ? Are the mondeo ones too long ?

Aren't almost all the driveshafts the same splined end? Your existing ones should be okay....

yep - all of the three ball style modern drive shafts, which ford have used roughly since 1995ish, are the same on the splined end, so your current ones should be okay

What about a 1.7 zetec-se from a puma ?

Would this go straight in without any wiring mods ?

Also I believe you can turbo it ....

you can, but once the engine and conversion is paid for you're talking mega mega bucks, something i'd find hard to justify myself! if you're going the puma way, why not stay naturally aspirated and use the racing puma engine - still mega money though
