I have a normal mk3 fiesta (not turbo or xr2i as my insurance wont lt me ) and i have just had it lowered 35mm all round. It sits sweet at the front but is about 1-1.5 cms higher at the back...its really annoying. I think the previous owner had different shocks at the front which are adjustable but not at the back. Would changing the shocks at the rear to adjustable and having them sorted lower the car a bit at the back or not? Oh..the car sits flat when 2 people are sitting in it....is there anyway other than having a fat f*** sit in my boot all the time??

Cheers,
Tim

P.S how can i get more power out of my.....dare i say it......1.1 carburetta??? oh the shame .........

I have 1st hand experince of a 1.1!!!
If your on a bit of a budget what does make a difference is to take off the part of the air filter which goes to the front of the car. To do this take off the air filter, makes it easier!! This was designed to let cooler air to the engine but seeing as it's got a vent from the exhaust manifold I doubt it does a good job!! Then replace it, should be a bit more circular, you caould also put 6mm drill holes in the bottom of it around the edge for a louder sound. If you've got £40 buy o a K&N or scorpion though.
Not many people make exhausts for the humble 1.1, but Janspeed and Piper(I think) do. If you do all of this you'll prbably gain about 5 bhp, but it will look and sound a lot better.
You should have slight nosedown on the front to help the front end dig in during cornering, i`ve set my coilovers to 3-10 mm nosedown(can`t remember exactly)

If your car nose dives you've got the wrong springs or shocks for your model fiesta, tell me what year and model your Fiesta is and what lowering springs were fitted as the spring types vary
Paul R
Hi there Snake, what make are your coilovers? I assume that they are AVO or Spax. How do you rate them compared to the standard adjustable kits?

Cheers.

Simon.

Basically you know the air filter looks like a circle with a tube coming out of it (use your imagination ) Take the tube off:
Louder noises and better air induction for free!! Or you could do as Mr icecool suggested and buy a nice shiny air filter, will set you back £50 though.

The choice....is yours,
David its over to you.

Later!!!!!!!!!

I`m running Avo`s, the reason for buying them was complete control over the ride height + i`ve got a set of 17`s waiting to go on the car. They are pretty hard but thats how I prefer them, body roll is now pretty much non existant. You can also get springs cheap so you can have full control on the way the car handles. The Avo kit seems to be a minimum drop of 30-35mm, so I may have to get different spring to accomodate the wheels.
ive got full xr2i suspension but my car is a 1.1. as a result the front sits higher due to the lighter engine and my ice in the boot.

any ideas on how to cure this?
or is this a good thing clearance-wise bearing in mind that i want to lower it and fit 15's?

also is -60mm a good idea?

changing from 280lbs springs to 160lbs springs would soften the ride even further! You would need springs rated nearer 380lbs in that case, if not 450lbs.

FAO Paul R....

I phoned PMC after sending them a mechanics report, and they checked the part numbers for what they sent out and apparently they are the correct springs for the car.

They have however agreed to send out a set of Spax springs and I have to pay the £3 differnece in price AND the labour to get them replaced AND the postage to return the current springs to them!!!

Nice people. NOT!!!!

Hopefully the Spax springs will be better on the car. I could have has PI -50mm spring sbut they wanted about £100 for the set!! So I'll stick with the Spax ones.

This was the main problem with the Avo coilovers, the suspension was so hard it was unbearable and didn't handle well at all, You do need some damping but this had none at all! I like a firm ride and i've been in loads of lowered cars but this was just crazy. I've got H&R coilovers on my my Escort Cabriolet which lowered the car 70mm yet the ride and handling is out of this world... just like £500+ suspension kit should be!! I would never ever use a Avo kit again, it was a joke.
Think how much its cost everytime I've had to change kits!!!
Paul R

I do have a mk4 one but it's not on the car. That's the original one and the scrapes are where it's been sanded down. You can see the filler where the green stripe in the bumper was. The number plate resides in there now as well.

Adrian.
