carbs on my 2i
hi people,
i was wondering if i just stuck carbs on my 1.6 cvh efi would it work with out the efi system? and how much torque and bhp would it increase? also what about the fuel pump?
if any body can help that'll be great
cheers rhys

well firstly you'd fail your mot it would run like a pig
you'd need to get a new de cat pipe, remove wiring easy you'd probs with a tweak get 15bhp
worth it for a laugh but serioulsy efi more efficent and more fuel economical plus better running twin carbs but on a 1.6 dont bother get a mondeo engine
hehehehe got mine sourced with brand spanking new matt back rs1800 manifold my friend blade may be selling me due to 200 sx rethink

theres no guarantee on carbs that hed fail his mot . all you need to do is balance them properly.
oh and youd fail with a decat if its manufacture date is after august 92 as they were a legal requirement from then on.
so you can fit them but just set them up properly and they will be fine. and sound a helluva lot better than efi.

if there set up well then there would be no cause for the emmissions to exceed the mot regulations.
as its a 1.6 cvh im not even sure why people have mentioned a decat, as they never came with a cat in the first place.
in reality carbs are a bit dated, and throttle bodies have become alot more common. there are alot of things that would need to be changed to run either of them. for example to run throttle bodies a few things you would need are inlet manifold, throttle bodies, remappable ecu, wideband lambda sensor, wiring loom etc theres loads more bits but those are just a few things.
but to answer your orignal question, carbs can work on an efi cvh engine but its alot of work, the bhp and torque increase would be dependant on other modifications to the engine. you would need a fuel pressure regulator as carbs run at a much lower psi than the efi system.
hope that helps
