CAT1 Alarms

Postby Rawkus on Tue Apr 29, 2008 6:35 pm

After suffering 4 weeks of permanent immobilisation courtesy of my Clifford Concept 300, the wire cutters were put into action and I now need to replace it.
What CAT1 system do you guys recommend I fit?

Well not a Clifford. pimsle

For my money I would go with eother a TOAD or a Sigma, they are designed to protect your car not impress your mates with a range of totally pointless toys

Mate, the car came with it on and it worked fine for 2 years so i've made do. Now i get to choose, so I've asked the experts, not the salesmen!
Every time i've had enough expendible, say £400, i could have replaced the alarm for a good one, or spent it or something like a new set of wheels. I'm sure you've been there! Now my hand is forced!

Oranoco isn't trying to sell you anything, its the truth. More often than not alarms with pointless toys break more commonly and easily than professionally installed simple alarm systems from the likes of Toad or Sigma. I've a Toad A101CL, OK it doesn't have remote start or turbo timers or anything like that, its a simple alarm that I can do nothing but recommend. Hasn't once gone wrong, immobilised me or anything.

I've got a Clifford on one of my cars mate. It's the most irritating piece of tug I've ever had the missfortune to have on a car. I was looking forward to getting rid of it and fitting something else but now it look slike I won't be keeping the car so I can't justify spending money on it.

Cliffords are a Marmite alarm, you either love them or hate them.

You missed my point man!
I've asked for recommendations cos every shop i've been in they just try and sell man a Clifford.
I was just after some good advice so i can pick one out and get it fitted!
Not interested in those toys, just somehting else to go wrong! All i want is an on/off button and a certificate to shut the insurance up!

Ahh! Ok! I've got a simple Toad A101Cl. Controls the central locking and boot release, has door, bonnet and boot protection and interior ultrasonics. It has two buttons on the remote control and I'm fairly sure it's a CAT1. If it isn't I know that the Toad Ai606 is a CAT1 alarm which has all the above plus a few extras (warn-away etc). You'd have to ask a thatcham approved alarm installer to install it for you, and sometimes they can supply the alarms, too.

Hope that helps?

I've got a Laserline CAT1 Alarm/Immobiliser, which I've never had a problem with.

Covers both doors, bonnet and boot. Plus it has ultrasonic interior sensors.

The remote has 2 buttons, one for the remote central locking and the other is a panic button.

just so you know...directed make clifford, toad, viper, and hornet...all come from the same factory...i used to hate clifford myself, but when they are installed correctly, IME they are just as good as any other alarm...they just tend to be installed correctly and neatly and not just lashed into the car as i have seen 9 times out of 10
