chatter and dumpvalve

just a quick question can you have both? i know what creates chatter but can you still get it with a dump valve fitted

In short no. the chatter is the compressor blades stalling by the boost having nowhere to go when the throttle gets closed. add a dump valve and you get rid of the chatter and also look a bit of a 'conquering device'.

In short yes. If the spring in a atmospheric piston type dv is too strong you get a some charge air being released and some backing up behind the turbo. In one of heeman10's vids you can here his re-circ DV dumping but still chattering.

as above...

If the dump valve is so tight that it will only open at 20 psi boos to less than that and it will flutter, anything over will dump...

Do away with it all... just stick to chatter!! :)

Actually it's called compressor stall, surge is the process of air backing up behind the blades but it's the stalling of the blades that cut the air to create a noise which is beautifully described by words such as chatter or flutter or wokka :P

It's the sound of the air being pushed back through the turbo causing "compressor stall", surge is something different alltogether

As far as i'm aware 'surge' is when the engine cannot use as much air as the turbo can produce...

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong but they are the basics...
