CHIPS CHIPS CHIPS BLOODY CHIPS
Been doing loadsa research on different types of chips available.
I've made my own assuptions on the pro's and con's but I would realy appreciate peoples opinions if they have or know someone who has a chipped zetec.
Motorsport developments EVO CHIP
Seems to be a good choice. The chip is set up for an individual car. The price i beleive is around the £250 and it seems like a good bet but i dont think anyone else can map them - only Motorsport Developments in Blackpool.
UNI-CHIP
Got a quote from interpro in bristol on this. Its fully mappable so great for any further mods or just a general tune up. Supplied, setup and fitted is £450. Seems pricey but again a good idea.
Superchips
Can get one supplied and fitted but it seems that these are just of the shelf jobs and are generic - so there not custom set up for a certain car, there preprogrammed. I can get one supplied and fitted for £185
Bayjoo Chip
Apparently this guy is the daddy but pricey. It will cost about the same as a unichip but can only be setup by Ahmed himself. If he's not avalible and i need something done i think i'd be a bit stuck!
So if any of you have one on a rs1800/16v 2i i would really appreciate your views.
cheers

Si i have seen alot of Uni-chip's set up and their results and i'd defo recommend this setup over any of the others listed above.

Simon,
Superchips dealers are able to map their chips. Sanspeed are doing mine. They started off with a standard 195 chip and are altering the mapping on it.

John do u know if the new remappable Superchip has other facility/controls like the Uni-chip that are able to utilise 5th Injectors etc?? Be curious to compare.

Just had a lengthy convosation with Graham @ Sanspeed.
They can map my current XR2i 16v ECU to run RS1800 spec items - such as cams and throttle bodies.
This chip only works on suttle mods like cams/zorsts/filter changes - but at £323 seems very pricey for what it actually is...
Also been doing some research on the XR2i / Rs 1800 ECU's.
It appears the only difference is not just the mapping. Apparently RS1800 have a faster processing speed than the XR2i and a few other differences.
At the minute, a uni-chip looks like my only choice......

Si the RS1800 runs a Ford EEC-IV with advanced chip. It IS the chip that is the difference between the XR2i 16v & itself.

Phil - I scrapped the 2.0 idea. Long story. Catch me on MSN.
I decided to keep it 1.8 and hopefully show a few 2.0 up!!
If only I had £1400 and Excursion was close by...

The Unichip scores over the chips u've mentioned above as it has outputs for extra injectors etc that the standard ecu has no control over. However there are very few people in the country with the hardware to re-map fords eec-iv ECU's so most tuners rely on a plug in chip wheraas the Uni-chip comes in 2 parts and one is acutally soldered onto the ECU circuit.

u rekon a decent power figure could be had with a 2.0 head work, and a uni chip, along with the usual zorst and filter? also could it be mapped for decent fuel economy?
i cant afford one.. but i was curious for future

I personally dont think zetec chips are worth the money mate - I had one on the 2 litre and it made a slight bit of difference but not much.
I'd rather spend the money converting a 4 branch manifold and upgrading to 2 litre

Phil i would say yes from what i've seen from Unichip setup's, from those mods u will be looking at a healthy reliable and economical figure.
But as always the map is only as good as the mapper.

Replying a bit late I guess...looks like Graham has explain to you what you wanted to know about the superchip.
What's it like? Well, not great at the moment because the fuelling still needs playing with!
The thing with mapable chips is that they can be altered to suit the way YOU like it (within reason). It is very difficult to describe what it is like without directly comparing it with something similar. The only way you would be able to tell exactly how each chip performed is to try them all on the same car as every car is different (mods, condition, mileage, age, etc)
Once you've decided which chip you are going to go for, you then have to do all the research for the best tuner. Another worthwhile post!
Good luck with whatever you chose.

Si,
That would be fine - if I hadn't just started to re-wire it!
I'll let you know once it is back up and running.
John
That reminds me must get some pic's done this weekend.

i thk the rs1800 ecu is different from the XR one , i wouldnt be surprised if the chips inside where different, the mapping is certainly different.
i am going to go motorsport development for now, along with some kent cams and verniers and my soon to have tube torque exhuast, only looking for around 140-145 bhp before i get the turbo convresion sorted out

chip
I'm gonna go with motorsport development for my stage 1 chip and uprated actuator too.
They make the chips themselves and seem reasonably priced!
Then when I get it rolled, I will see if the chip does what it says on the tin!!
