Clio 16v Zetec turbo project halted

Postby Red16 on Tue Jun 07, 2005 7:58 pm

after trying the engine in my mates clio 16v today ive decided that the project isnt going any further, going to be too awkward and difficult to get the zetec engine to fit in the clio engine bay :moaning:

looks like im gonna have to sort myself out a nice series 2 rs turbo to strap it into :top:

the width wsnt a problem its the depth of the ford gearbox, it is just too close to the power steering rack to allow me to move the engine back the necessary 100mm to allow everything to line up and fit :wall:

the engine minus rover m16 inlet manifold

engine in the right place in the engine bay

engine and gearbox in the engine bay needing to be moved 100mm further back

reason why the gearbox is stopping me move the engine and box back 100mm

Argh bugger. In situations like that you just want to grind off the back of the gearbox to make it fit! Bad luck with that, and good luck with finding a good car to stick it in :)

i see what your problem is there as ive worked on a few clio's in my time (not with zetec in though  ). if it was me i think id get the rack out and bulkhead trimmed back enough to let you mount the engine then id work round that problem. could you mount the steering rack further up the bulkhead and make previsions for the track arms to go through the inner wings and modify the coloumn? and as you'll be no dought lowering the suspension anyway this may suit better to keep the track arms straighter as a result. thats all probably irrelivent as youve no dought gone all through the senarios. just a shame to see a project go bad really

Obviously not going to be cheap, but you can get custom made bellhousings fabricated, maybe use the Clio gearbox with the Zetec engine?

Or

A friend of a friend of mine has a Clio with a Audi TT 300bhp engine in, maybe an idea?

Thanks

Matt
