clutch for 2.0?

Postby JayC on Mon May 22, 2006 11:54 am

Its sorta the last peice of the puzzle...

I need a clutch for the 2.0 conversion im up to, i was going to and still plan to use the 1.6 clutch.. i know this sounds stupid but it wont be ragged to hell and pollished at every given opportunity.

next idea was to use the 1.8 16v xr2i clutch... but thats only rated for 105ps and from the order codes on motorsport world they are the same clutch.

cant use the rs1800 clutch because its 240mm

i know im gonna get flamed, but i dont want to shell out for an expensive clutch either.

i would be happy to spend £100 on a clutch, but no more, can anyone recommend an alternative that i could use..

will mate the 2.0 on standard 1.6 zetec b5 box...

If dipy reads this, you said in a post on ff about what clutch i should use, but i replied for a bit more detail and since then the site has been down so i havent read your reply if there was one.. ide like to hear from you if you read this mate, you mentioned something about an AP clutch only comming in at £89 quid? and that you broke your 1.6 clutch springs?

cheers chaps.. im sure someone can help

I'm pretty sure the standard si clutch can cope with the power. I got myself a sports clutch for an si off ebay for about £35, not too sure ive actualy bought the right one yet, it just said zetec so i might have done a bad move, lol!

Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.

i think youll be alright mate, even the CVH clutches fit... so long as its 220mm.

i suppose im after a sports clutch, but i dont really need the strength that i will end up paying for.

i got about a week to decide

I remember when I was phoning around for a new clutch for my 2.0 Si, I found out that the FRST (or the RS1800) clutch is the same. So either way the Si clutch is rated for at least 130bhp.
2.0 Zetec Fiesta Si. Nice.

why do you say that the si clutches are the rated for atleast 130hp? you saying this on a size basis?

I thought the rs1800 used a 240mm clutch?

Did mine with a 1.6 Si clutch and fine. When I bought it was the same part code as the RS1800.

I got it from my local motor factors "SAS"!

It's a Ferrodo one from memory, about £50.

thats cool, but this clutch is the same clutch as the escort rst item, so i presume i would still be on your sorta idea, just brand difference here.

i found it odd that the escort one was the same, but the FRST is a different code..

thanks for sharing that tho mate, the standard clutch is £104 from burton so really ive still gone the same way as youve suggested, but just chosen a different brand.

Got the clutch today, turns out it was a LUK clutch afterall ;)

but ive got a problem.. on the cover plate face, at opposing sides there are squiggly scores, like someones let a drill bit loose on the top, one side was smooth to run a finger over, but the other side was quite rough.. ive smoothed it out with a bit of fine emery cloth, not so much that i cant send it back or have damaged it tho..

its smooth now, but the ridges are still present.. should i just send it back and ask for a descent one.. or is this normal?

sorry the pics are s**t, but hopefully you can see what i mean.
