Compressor tuning a CVH???

Postby goglahey on Wed Jul 23, 2003 8:11 am

I'm trying to find a compressor for a CVH engine or a compressor at all. But so far I’m not having any luck, does any body know where i can find one??

I have heard that there has been made a special compressor for the CVH engine but I’m not sure if its true??

I doubt it if he already owns an 'XR2i Turbo'...

Perhaps if he explains what this item does someone will be able to understand

What i mean

Postby goglahey on Thu Jul 24, 2003 9:08 am

Yes i mean a super charger or a compressor as it is called in Denmark and the rest of the world if you ask google.com :oooh:

I have a T3 turbo but i think you can pull more bhp out with a supercharger like the ones the company’s sprintex and vortex makes

Im not sure that superchargers are the way to go for big BHP.

I know of a Mk1 Fiesta running both a supercharger and turbocharger.

Not sure of any supercharger kits available for the cvh?!

cheers

Superchargers suck power from the engine in the first place so you would need a decent power engine to run it to start with, and I doubt the standard FRST engine minus the turbo is actually that powerful

Supercharger VS. turbo charger

Postby goglahey on Fri Jul 25, 2003 12:52 pm

to Stoned

How come the supercharger stinks, when it starts setting pressure at 1500 rpm and the air is much cooler than with a turbocharger.
Plus you have much more free flow of your exhaust???

I didnt say that they 'stink'

I just said they were engine leeches. Turbo's are free power from a wasted resource

Merc stands for Mercedes.

Superchargers generally tend to be more effective on low revs because they generate boost by using the crankshaft movement unlike a turbocharger, which depends on exhaust gasses to start spinning. The problem is their main advantage is also their biggest fault: by being driven by the crankshaft they actually sap noticeable amounts of power.

Technically speaking, a turbocharger *should* give a more power efficient engine but it will never have the same throttle response or the low revs torque of a supercharger so I guess its all a matter of personal preference... or you can do as some rally teams did in the 80's (the golden age of the group B cars) and have a supercharger/turbo setup running on your fiesta, with the supercharger taking care of the low(ish) revs with a clutch system that disengages it on higher revs, letting the turbo take over. Planning that should keep you busy for a while.

H&H Motorsports Provos, 450bhp from a supercharged 4.4litre v8. It ised a vortech supercharger with a lower gear ratio than is standard but used a more agressive angle on the compressor baldes to increase throughput without letting the tips of the blades go supersonic. Apparently a very scary motor car which produces huge amounts of low down power.

Dont like the colour tho.
