Confused by bushes, please help

Postby df908 on Mon Jan 27, 2003 1:43 pm

Well, polyurethane ones anyway.

So. It's for a '89 XR2i and they're being changed cause its getting lower (yay!) and the current ones are fooked.

Fiesta Centre has the complete mk3 set listed for 180 quid, which has 12 bushes in it. All sounds fine except for

1) That's including 4 rear anti roll bar bushes
2) I can't see any rear anti roll bar on my car

Am I being special? Should my car have an antiroll bar at the rear? Can someone with the plot please help me!

Cheers

I might be wrong but I thought only the RS1800 and the RST had a rear anti roll bar

Yeah, just the RS's have rear anti-roll bars, unless the 16v 2i has one ?

Anyway, i wouldnt recommend having all your bushes changed to Polyurethene, especially if your going very low. It can make your car too hard, you need some give in your suspension and bushes so the weight of the car can move.
I have only changed my anti-roll bar bushes to poly bushes.

cheers :)

8v 2is don't have roll bars. 16v ones do.

Ford can be a bit inconsistant though. A late 8v might have one.

Easy way to check - look under the car at the back. The anti roll bar is about 1cm in diameter and a [ shape, bolted on brackets to the rear beam.

Thanks guys, after having another look I can safely say I definitely don't have one of them.

Fezzy Turbo - I'm not going very low - 25mm drop on 15"s... I know the ride will get harder but that's partly what I'm after :D
