Considering a 2.0l upgrade in the 1.1

Postby ju575 on Wed Jun 01, 2005 11:31 pm

Due to some quite bad rot on my 1.6 i'm seriously considering putting a 2.0lZetec in my 1.1. Already got uprated suspension and XR2i brakes so (although they will need to be upgraded in the near future) they arn't a concern.

I was looking at the Zetec Conversions page

But i'm a bit confused about what I need from what cars. So far I've decided that I need: (* to be bought new from ford)

EDIT: been reading Project XR2i_Trackcars 1.68v - 2.0 16v guide and made a bit more sense and come up with this list :)

2.0
2.0 16v silver top engine (try to get it complete)
2.0 throttle body
2.0 MAF

1.8
1.8 sump & oil pick up pipe
1.8 Dipstick & Tube
1.8 Exhaust manifold, heat shield & full Exhaust system
1.8 Inlet manifold inc throttle body, fuel rail & injectors, Intermediate flange
1.8 Throttle cable
1.8 Engine mounts plus brackets
1.8 water pump & pulley
1.8 starter motor
1.8 Lamda sensor
1.8 coolant hosing complete
1.8 Thermostat
1.8 oil pump (2.0 can be used with smaller filter)
1.8 Radiator & fan
1.8 Cam belt
1.8 gearbox register (alignment plate)
1.8 Alternator & bracket
1.8 Alternator Pulley
1.8 Alternator/Starter motor wiring
1.8 Oil pressure switch (if not one on 2.0)

1.6
1.6 Si Gearbox
1.6 Clutch, release plate & flywheel
1.6/1.8 Air inlet & Induction kit or similar
1.6 16v Si Engine loom complete and 2.0 ECU (DEEP, DEWY or DESK)
1.6 Fuel Tank
1.6 Fuel Pump

Things i'm not sure about
Power Steering Pump (Is this the same on any Zetec Engine?)

What of the 1.8 bits need to come from a fiesta? and what can come from a mondeo?

Does the interior loom need changing in any way?

P.s. I did do a search for all this and i looked in the guides secton but all of the posts seemed indecisive and i ended up more confused (if thats possible)

Ohh and if i do go ahead with this myself i'll be making a guide for it :D

First of all the parts you have listed under 1.6 and 1.8 are the same. If you have a mk3.5 then the loom will not need changing. Lamba sensor, thermostat, and cam belt are indiginous to the zetec engine but everything else needs to come from the Fiesta. The only thing you will use from the mondeo is the block, head, engine loom and maf. What you should really do is buy a cheap written off zetec Ghia, or Si then you have all of the bits. That is what I did to put a zetec into my Classic shell.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.
