i meant as in:-
carb
injection
or turbo charged....
as the basic fitting of the engine is all the same, just what ekse you have to fit for each is completly diff!

if you have a carb engine at the moment then putting a bigger carb engine in would be easier, if you have injection then get an injection engine. It could be a bit expensive/inconvenient to convert carb to inj.
Edit: just read the title and the mk3.5 is single-point injection I think.

no easiest would be to convert to a 1.6xr2i lump....
as your car has the injection fuel lines and fuel tank already!
all you will need to do is change the engine loom for a cvh one and drop the engine in.
you will also have to use 1.6 si driveshafts and brakes to make sure everyting is up to the job!
basically an easy enought swap!
hope that quick reply has helped a little

cheers for that xrsi, much appreciated, hopefully funds will allow me to start doing this next month! i presume all the mounts for the xr2 lump will match up where the existing ones mount? also would the hubs & lower arms need to be changed or not?

still not made my mind up
i initially wanted to do a 1.1 hcs mk3.5 ---> 1.6 xr2i cvh conversion, but was told to do a 2.0 zetec 16v conversion - as the engine is better, and obviously more customizeable in terms of performance, but i've been looking into doing it and it seems an awful lot of work... plus i might fall short on the money side of thing aswell..
so its either 1.6 CVH, or 1.6 Zetec (yes, i know, why you ask? well it'd prepare me for a bigger zetec conversion in years to come - bear in mind im only 19) plus the zetec again is a better engine.
so im not sure.... trying to evaluate which conversion needs what doing to it... and which is most cost-effective etc..
basically it's all open at the minute
just gathering info

i know what you mean mate as i'm only 19 myself!!! still an apprentice mechanic so the wages are sh!te! lol but the 1.6 xr2 engine is a good base and as we get older we can only progress onto bigger, faster things! lol
