Crankcase breather help

Postby KINGHORN on Fri May 29, 2015 8:45 pm

Ok took the inlet mani off my turbo to change it to one I painted and found a pipe with a bolt in it hanging loose. It's a 5/8" oil breather hose comes from a Y piece in the block the other one goes to the rocker, any idea what this is supposed to connect to?

Any chance of a picture?

I don't remember it having a Y-piece in the system, only Y-piece I remember is in the cooling system from the heather matrix to the header tank.

The breather had a single hose from crankcase to right hand of rocker cover, then left hand of rocker cover goes to breather pot. The breather pot has a small hose at the top which feeds back into the inlet manifold by the injectors and the bottom hose of the breather pot goes to the air filter.

I am assuming they needed to join the hose and had no straight joiners to hand or had an additional breather in the system at some point.

Please let me know if I'm wrong with any of this, haven't had the CVH in there for a long time.

Cheers,
Si

Think someone may have had an aftermarket breather installed & the Y piece is for the oil return from the breather pot to the crankcase mate. It shouldnt do any harm but just for good practice id replace it with a new piece of pipe or if your happy enough just leve it as is :D
