CVH OR ZETEC??

Postby xplo on Sat Dec 02, 2006 10:23 am

Hey

Im after buying an XR2I, ive been browsing these forums for ages and think ive gathered all info needed, etc etc apart from one thing.

What engine do I go for, 1,6cvh or 1,8zetec?

As for as I cn tell the Zetec is 16v(better?), will have more torque? and has shorter firwst and second gears - is this a good thing?

OR

The cvh will have slightly less fuel consumption, and i easier to tune?

More I less they are near enoguh exactely the same at stock in performance, just dont know whcih one to go for!!

I prefer the CVH myself due its lower down power and the fact its cheaper to rebuild, tune etc.

like wildheart said the cvh has more low down power but the zetec does have a lot of tuning capacity it all depends on what your prepared to do to it and how you want your car to drive

Really depends what you want to do. If you just want the stock engine go zetec. If you want more power on a budget go CVH turbo, T3, beige's 195 chip . If you want bigger power but you got money to burn theres Zetec turbo. Or a half way house of a ZVH.

Hey

Thanks guys so you reckon the CVH?

I will most likely go replace element > manifold > full system

Then might chip and cams but depends if I could get them cheap!

So the lower gearing and 16v of the zetec doesnt really make a difference? I heard 16v are better at revving? Low down power seems ok, probs not going to redline it everywhere but almost 4k everywhere :)

also is the zetec more torquey? i like torque :)

I'd go for the Zetec, :D Swap the cams throttle body and ecu for 2.0l ones, and you've got RS1800 power :D , there are some guides on here somewhere about doing this

I love my zetec... Get a healthy one and it'll serve you well... plus they're just generally more refined

Wow

Thanks guys!

Im going throw this in the mix..

What would be the better engine for 50 shot of nitrous?

Thinking about not bothering with cams etc, just a full system and nitrous, I have managed to source both for 500, and I could pick up a nice xr2i for 500, so for a grand ive got myself a nice project base.

what do you lot think?

CVH everytime. It's not as refined as the Zetec but develops more power and feels far more lively on the road despite the defecit of 200cc.

I've driven both and I would always opt for finding a CVH car as it just feels so much more alive. Even with the basic tuning the 16v just feels somewhat lacking and underwhelming.
