Cvh T3 conversion guide
I have put together this guide to give you a insight to how to convert from a standard T2 to the bigger T3.
Parts required:
Escort Rs T3 turbo complete with exhaust manifold
Escort Rs turbo braided oil feed pipe
Escort Rs turbo exhaust manifold gasket with new nuts/washers
Escort Rs oil return stub (i had to get this made up for me as ford no longer make this part)
Escort Rs oil return pipe - £45 from fords or look on ebay.
Escort Rs turbo intercooler
Escort Rs turbo bottom boost hose
Exhaust down pipe will need to be sourced and welded onto your current exhaust.
Removing the T2
Drain your coolant system by removing the bottom rad hose. Removing the front bumper is required to get access to certain things i found.
Remove the charge carrier and boost pipes from the intercooler and undo the intercooler from the rad and remove also. Carefully remove the rad, be sure not to damage the fins on the T2.
Disconnect the t2 downpipe and then disconnect the oil return and water feed pipes along with boost hoses. Unbolt the T2 and Lift the whole thing off the engine.
Preparing the block
The T2 return stub need to be removed from the block. Normally they pull out with ease use plenty of wd40 and get a thin flat head screw driver behind and wedge out.
Once its out clean around the area and dont get any grit/dirt in the hole. Then get the T3 return stub and apply red gasket compoundaround it then tap flush into the block.
Fitting the T3
Refit the rad then gently place the T3 with manifold attached into the engine bay and be careful not to catch the rad fins.
The turbo in place with modified brass water pipes.
gently nip up the manifold bolts and connect up the oil return pipe
oil return fitted - Be sure to retighten this once its been run for the first time !!
Connect up the downpipe and refit the exhaust. I sourced a complete fiesta Rs turbo exhaust system with a T3 downpipe welded onto the mid section. This is the easiest option , look on ebay or you can get a stainless downpipe made up for around £65 to fit the standard mid section.
Connect the actuator and turbo up as normal with the vacuum hoses and fit a in line connector and extend over to the amal valve if its being kept.
The escort rs turbo bottom hose had to be trimmed 3 times. rougly 2 inches at the top and half inch at the bottom - trial fit after each fit. Make sure it doesnt kink.
Boost pipe fitted.
Fit the oil feed pipe around the back of the block with a 18mm spanner. again use some gasket compound around the thread to make a good seal. Then feed round to the front and connect up the same way on the top of the T3. Ensure the oil feed doesnt touch wiring or water pipes as it get quite hot at times.
Rad will require to be moved forward on the passenger side to clear the actuator bracket. Trim the bumper for the fan and screw the bottom of the rad to the bonnet catch support as shown then get a 10mm cable tie for the inter cooler once its been fitted to the rad.
The finished article.
I will be updating this when i get to do some more pictures.
