Dastek uni chip.

Postby black2 on Tue Nov 21, 2006 5:33 pm

Hi all thinking of buying a second hand dastek uni chip. At the mo it is mapped for another make and modle of car, however they are fully mapable hence can be mapped to ANY car, or so it says on the dastek website.

I just have a couple of questions to ask you chaps before i make up my mind, how hard / what sort of time will it take to map the dastek to my car which for the record is a FRST, from other peoples experiances?

Could you pleased tell me your opiouns (spelling  ) on them, ie are they any good, i have a prety good idea that they are well worth getting but thought id ask.

Please give me your thoughts,

thanks,

Gareth :)

Not to hot on the Dastek Unichip although I am aware of it. Getting it fitted shouldn't be too hard. Expect a remap to be a good few hundred quid though.

By time you've paid out and had it fitte dthen mapped you might as well just go and get a normal plug in chip mapped for your car or cosider a management swap

The thing is, my FRST is currently running a plug in chip, i bought it off here years ago and its fine, but im after some more power now and im unsure if it has the correct map on it to accomadate beige injectors etc, at the mo the car is around 185bhp, the chip was sold to me as a "remapable chip" but i really dont think it is, so im unsure if its "165" spec or "195"? Too look at its just a computor board, ie no "superchips" Blue casing so i dont really have any way of knowing exactly what the map is, Hence me wondering weather to get a Dastek, my brother has a Dastek in his FRST but he did'nt have it fitted, although he had it re-mapped at Interpro, i will have to ask him how much it cost for the re-map.

I quite fancy the dastek option over the "plug in 195 job". However if mine does turn out to have an addequate map on it, then i will just stick with that, but i need to find out what the map is on it, can a specialist ie engine tuning garage find out what the map is?

i looked into dastek also, but i spoke to some users who said it wasn't that great. They reported a slight Hesistation when throttling or backing off. Not sure if it is true but this is what they think.
Also one of my friends bought his like the one you describe, from another car. It cost £250 i think to remap it.
I would say to go for the 195 over a dastek.
hope this helped in some way.
cheers

Ive done all the mods to the engine and at the mo im still on stanadrd Blues, but their on their limit, i have a suspicion that i have a "195" map already.

Think ill have too do some more research into the 195 or Dastek.

A 195 chip will not run the blues correctly and 185 just isn't doable on those injectors. I'd be surprised to see much beyond a real 155.

Been caught out myself by an over enthusiastic dyno reading. Mine saw 207 on one set of roller and when she was run again on some very posh and very accurate rollers I saw 167 despite a few more mods :(

Either way you will need an injector swap to go further and the management to cope accordingly.

I would recomend chatting to a few tuners to see what they suggest

Sorry I skipped most comments, To re-map a Dastek its about £150 - In all honesty you'd be best buying something like a MegaSquirt and save the expense of a re-map everytime you add something to your engine.

Dunno how much your paying for it but lets say its £50, your paying £200 to have it work on your car - For abit extra you could get a MS unit and re-map it yourself

Hmm im not sure about the mega squirt idea, that sounds like alot of hastle, will have to read up on it though.

I would like to hope the rolling road was accurate when last rollong roaded the car recorded 171bhp and 175lbft torque, since then i have fitted and properly dialed in a piper 285 T cam, and also added a cosworth fuel pump, so in my mind the car should be in the region of 180, the car certainly feels a lot more livly with this cam in than it did with 171bhp. I know the pump is some what wasted on the standard blues, hence beige injectors, but the standard fule pump broke, so i replaced it with an uprated one in preperation for the beiges.

We will see, i will keep you informed.
