De- cat pipe, worth it?
anyone fitted one to a 1.6 si? Has it made much difference, is it worth the outlay?

i remember one of the big-cats (he he) on here say it will make feck all diff. as does induction kits, but ive never had it done so cant really say but from all the different comments i would say that there will be little difference and it will be a pain in the arse having to put it on for MOT,
but on the other hand if u got induction kit and some engine mods if u had it on rolling road u could get some benifits

I have no cat, full magnex and a K+N, I managed 94BHP on the rollers at Well Lane Batley.
Personally I don't think taking the cat out has made any difference except give me headaches at MOT time
Put your money into the suspension or brakes I reckon.

No, I didn't have it RR'ed before I modded it but the book figures are 90BHP so that's a whopping 4BHP increase
I think saying a cat pipe will give you a 10% increase is just a tad sweeping..... or are you some gas flow expert, you've obviously gained more knowledge in your time than I have in my 9 years in the motor trade!
I think it's far too easy for company X to say our product will give you Y amount of power, if it were true my car should be running 120BHP now Modern cars are designed a lot better than they used to be so there is less room for improvement nowadays

de cating the exhaust will generally only give you your '10%' increase in older cars which the engines were never deleoped for use with the cat. ie the 1.9 pug engines and the like. the cat was what evenually killed the car off because it effected the performance so much. newer cars are made to run with a cat and there fore taken it off wont really benfit you too much unless you remap the chip, if it has one. plus the fact that exhausts on newer cars these days are all ready fairly efficient. this is only a general rule though

I reckon its worth it, although I picked up my pipe for £20
If that 10 bhp = £2 / bhp and that is money WELL spent
I also got a full powerflow and ramair which help things along a lot. I have noticed though that the car runs a bit rougher in the first say 5 minutes (when you shouldn't kane it anyway though), but its worth it after that!

........right
If u want more power, remeber ur cars an air pump. u gotta get the air and fuel in there, process it and get it out, faster u can do it faster it will go ..... so just changing ur cat aint or changin ur back box will do nothin if ur leavin ur standard out let manifolds on and standard pipe. get it cam'd chipped get a straight through zorst system do the head and make sure ur cars getting cold air ,,,, then see if it ripps...... but cats snuffle power..... keep it though ull need it at mot time !

Lose the cat...come to think of it, lose the back box too! It'll sound like you've got a v8 under the bonnet...mine does! look...
