im thinking of doing the same thing to my mk4 but dont have a clue how to do it i think im gonna get in about it with a screwdriver and see if i can pop the grills out

Ive been looking at replacement mesh front grills but they cost a bomb, and when it's possible to do it yourself it's not worth buying one.

Just take off bumper and cut the retaining plastic lugs off. Pop out the grill buy some mesh and fold this over from the back seal this with some sort of heavy sealant such as mastic or such to keep in place. Hope this helps

its easier than it seems...
i did it a while back on an old grill...
i invested in a dremel, and cut the slats out, then put some blobs of araldite on the inside of the grill, once i had rubbed down and resprayed, i used the blobs of glue to screw the mesh to.

A ha, im half way there. I half cut the slats out today, but still looks a bit of a mess so im getting one of those dremel things tomorrow to finish the job off smoothly. Hopefully it'll be done soon so i'll take some pics.
