wouldnt be worth spending money on it imho. You would get hardly any gain for your money.

would spend your money on styling mods and then go for a different engine when u can afford it.

The boxes are from the same "family" and it will fit, but the ratios are very different. The D has taller gears.

The diesel box has taller gears?! I assume you mean shorter? There's no rev counter on the diesel, but I'd guess at 85mph or so it's doing close on 4000rpm, somewhere around there, perhaps a little more, and they don't like going much faster than that comfortably, and I don't think an extra 2,000rpm would make that box hit 110rpm, so if the gears were made even shorter for the 2i, I'd be surprised. Plus the 2i could hit 60 in second couldn't it? Mine might push 35?!!! Hmmm....

and as for the 2i comment, the 16v 2i's hit 60 in 2nd where as the 8v ones hit 60 im 3rd (unless you rev the funlumps off it). :)

Diesel boxes more often than not have longer ratios than their petrol model equivalents, I assume is to do with the diesel having more torque and hence not needing short ratios to get going. Having said that a diesel isn't exactly quick anyway, it just has a lot of torque.

You often find Fiesta and Escort drivers fitting diesel gearboxes for the longer ratios, meaning higher top-end speed.
