Different kinds of Zetec-S rear beam?!

Postby Sphinx on Mon Dec 15, 2003 1:50 pm

I've red the post about MMo's car but couldnt find the asnwer.
I've heard sumwhere that the zetec-s rear beam changed slightly during production, apparently 1 fits straight on a Mk 3/3.5 no probs and one doesnt. Can n e 1 explain this a bit further?

Cheers

I think it needs to be a certain year, but Paul or Adrian will be able to answer the question better when they see the thread.

Other way around.

Earlier ones are fork type. Later ones are compatable with the mk3/3.5 shocks.

If you're only worried about the lower shock mounting points, that change took place on 08/98 (remember thats the date when they were built, not registered) according to most suspension manufacturers. But its easy to spot which one you want... just get on your knees and have a peek (no pun intended). You should be able to tell the difference between eye type and fork type just by looking at them.

I just looked

Microcat only has a diagram of one type, but lists underneath multiple types including a 'sports series'

Simple answer:

Do your shocks fit?

Yes = right beam.

No = wrong beam.

Adrian, Am I correct in thinking the wrong beam has a fork type fitting for the shocks? Or some other arrangement?

Heres a pic of the correct shock mounting that it should have for it to go on a mk3.

What are the improvements from fitting this? Is it worth the hassle?

Depending wherer he got them from, yes. Pads and disks are max of about £40 depending on the size for standard items.

You'll find more info here: http://www.fiestaturbo.com/phpBB/viewto ... zetec+beam
Basically, stiffens the car up, and Paul says it makes a huge difference!

The beam doesnt matter, its the stub axles, hub, etc that matter. Standard [vented] front disks for a Fiesta are the same as an Escort and Orion, so the backs will be same arrangement I would imagine.
