DIY gasflowing????

Postby festajon on Sat Jun 15, 2002 3:58 am

Basically i will hopefully be getting a spare 1.6 cvh xr2 complete head to mess around with for not very much. I have been told that it's very quiet and the cam is in good condition. While i have it on the bench i thought it would be a good idea to attempt a bit of porting and polishing, but dont really know where to begin. Obviously im not looking for huge gains in power, but anything that makes it a bit less restrictive and smoother can only be a bonus.
Was thinking of getting one of those dremel things and a few of the attatchments, but, as i said, dont know where to start. Which ports can i/should i polish? what attatchments do i need to do it (wire wool?)

Cheers
Jon

Porting should be restrained to smoothing the inlet ( not to the gasket line ) and opening the exhaust in a gentle taper from the valve seat, to the manifold face ( gasket line porting acceptabe ). If you run your finger down the exhaust port you will feel what will need to be removed, blend the valve seat to the port and cut the seats to 3 angles.
