Does Chipping your car damage it?

Im planning on chipping my Rs1800, will it cause any probs/damages in the future.

I have my self a mint, smooth running RS1800 and i dont want to fook her up in anyway but i still wouldnt mind a bit more poke!

Any advice would be great?

It shouldn't do providing you have a chip from a reputable tuner.
