Re: dont mean to depress anyone
As said above try and learn a trade in something (If you havnt already), ie plumbing for example.
I know a few plumbers and they earn good coin. The problem with money is though - the more you earn the more you spend.
Gareth.

Re: dont mean to depress anyone
Been plumbing for over 20 years now,
I'm self employed also Gas Safe registered and earn very good money (£30p/h +)
But it takes time to get to that sort of money, you start off at the bottom though like any job.
You can't go far wrong with any trade tbh.

this is one thing i have thought of but trying to get on a weling course were i am is hard as there dont seem to be any no more. i called all the local colleges to enquire about a weling course and all of them told me they arnt running them no more due to lack of interest!!
i am a city and guilds level 3 qualified mechanic...... but iv always worked for myself so the works always been here and there never regular.. were i havent worked for a garage all i ever get told is i dont have enough trade experiance, so i was set to start my own garage.. but everything i look into is looking not possible for me because it cost to much. if i go and work in a garage there going to pay me peanuts due to my "lack of experience" "4 years" so by the time i save up to start my own business along with living its going to take ages!!!! hence why i was thinking i can always do the mechanics.. but what can i go and do like the weling and earn some decent money to get me on the road to my own business.... maybe im thinking to much into it i just feel a bit stuck at the moment...
iv always herd plumbers earn good money...

yeah plumbers make good money.
My trade has went downhill fast, (aircraft fitter) i used to get 20+ quid an hour virtually tax free, but now im struggling to even get work right now
hence why im back at college to learn to weld, broaded my horizons a bit

in the same boat as u m8,
was being payed jelly beans at my old work(hi-q) and they wouldnt put my wage up from a trainee fitter to fitter after gaining c&g lvl2 so give them the finger, biggest mistake ive made financially but so glad im not being worked like a mule for a measly 600 quid a month,
as for getting another job, i dont know if im doing it wrong but every job i apply for, you hear nothing back, its not as if im applying for jobs too out of my league, cleaner, call centre, customer service, anything a knuckle scraper can do, but nothing,
if you want to earn proper money you have to look at job roles that are in need,
dentist, pharmacists, funeral directors, are some of the proffesions that are in need, and for trade jobs allthough the building trade is goin down for the winter, u could try apprentice engineers, for people like clancy docwra who man the roads, southern gas networks or (scotia gas) as their called or if ur nothern try n-power i know another easy job to get in to especially if ur female,
is being a doorman, it costs 250 quid to get ur sia licence and 160 for the doorcard licence, might seem alot for 400 quid, but you then have the right cards to do anything in security, static, mobile, what ever, and doormen get on average 12-16 pounds per hour but i supose it alldepends on how the night life is around your area, with brighton theres thousands of pubs clubs and bars, so theres allways going to be work for doormen/women
also with the sia, u can get on to wheel clamping, verry good money if u can hack the s**t youll get, or join the prison service as a screw,
or do what my missus does and become a screw in the imigration centres 25-27k a year for locking people up who shouldnt be in this country,
it is hard trying to fina a job at the mo, theres bound to be some one wholl give me one,

Re: dont mean to depress anyone
shop work is alright but depends what ya out goings are.
i started with a good job, then when made redundant i spent time on the dole, and ive done some very $hit jobs, and earnt crap money with a wife, kids etc, and the RS came off the road, but stick at it and get into something better and it will come mate.
im 3/4 way through 2 years of training to be a refigeration and air con engineer, and i had never touched refigeration before this job, but i got taken on as a trainee, have to admit, i would rather be doing engineering again, or car work as i find that more interesting, but it does for now.
keep ya eyes open in the new year, i found when out of work, that one of the best times for jobs was in the new year as people tend to change jobs at this point, not saying i got any , but there were more about, so chin up mate, stick in there.

Re: dont mean to depress anyone
Well im labouring at the moment for £10.50 p/h so thats happy days .
I was a fully qualified personnal trainer , I was on the basic £6.20p/h plus p.t on top so it could be good and sometimes bad , but since the so called "resession" no-one wants to spend money on PT , so i went into the marines after 3 years of being a PT , so s**t money in the marines but thats what I wanted to do ,£750p/m after tax, but i got medically discharged with a back problem hense why im labouring now.
I can go back in after a year , so thats 10 months i have to wait now .
p.s i had no experence of labouring at all ever in my life
Ben

You know, replying to someone's post about their financial struggles and difficulty in finding work by bragging about your new and particularly well-paid job is an astonishingly insensitive and, well, somewhat cockish thing to do.

Re: dont mean to depress anyone
Part of the problem of going college route to become a mechanic is getting a placement, no-one'll take on a randomer these days. There's always a call for people with a trade, the only thing to be wary of I think is becoming too dependant on a single source of work - as an example most building companies want tradesmen to work only for them, as though they were employees but won't give you quite enough work to be comfortable. I think most tradespeople on here will agree on that score.
Nothing to see here...

You're right there Andy. We'd then naturally think that the way forward would be to go self-employed. Of course, then, you could keep yourself busy round the clock if you do it well, but the government will gladly bum all that "extra", hard-earned money out of you anyway! Win the lottery, it's the only way!
