Door Speaker Advice?

Postby Leon on Thu Dec 07, 2006 2:32 pm

I recently installed a headunit in my car and realised all the existing speakers had been popped and rattle

I'm now looking at replacing them, but I have absolutely no idea what the best way to go is. The head unit I have is a JVC KD-G502 and supports 50Wx4:

I've seen sets of "components", and also sets of 6x8's/5x7's to replace the original door speakers. What's the difference?

I've been looking on E-Bay and have found a couple of interesting, cheap sets of 5x7's such as these:

I don't want my car to sound like a nightclub, but at the same time I want a bit of bass.

What do you lot suggest?

Thanks :Q

Correct me iff im wrong people but you dont want to go for oval speakers in your door.... it can be done if you want but i dont think it would be worth it. What i would recommend is to get a decent set of 10cm speakers for your door speakers for example JBL (good value). You will need a speaker adaptor kit which are a fiver from halfords. Wire tehm up and your good to go. I have got exactly what ive described above and they are fine.

Iff u want to go bigger then go for 13cm speakers but they usually require a door pod or iff your handy you could make something yourself.

i would go for a decent set of components in your doors. I use 17cm with some door pods but i think 15cm would be an easy fit.

I've been working on the understanding that 6x8's are the standard size and would be a straight swap.. I drive a MK1 Mondeo btw. :)

Bassboy,

If my stereo outputs 50x4, and the Infinity 6802cf speakers have a Recommended RMS Power of 60W, will this affect the sound?

I'm not really prepared to shell out for an amplifier at the moment.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question!

Leon it will be fine mate...obviously being amped they will sound amazing, but even without an amp...they are REALLY REALLY good! my cousin had the Infinitys in his Focus and they were amazing...like proper mid bass drivers with EXCELLENT top end quality just running off an OLD Alpine 7556 - about 4x40w IIRC!
