drive shaft sizes ?

Problem or technical question?

drive shaft sizes ?

Postby b0yracer on Wed Dec 18, 2013 10:53 pm

are all mk3 mk3.5 fiesta drive shafts the same? or are higher performance models thicker/stronger?

are all gearbox splines where the driveshaft fits same or different?

and are the hub end on a mk3.5 same or different to a mk3?

ie would a 1991 drive shaft fit into a 1995 car/hub?

cheers in advance dave

the shafts will fit a 1600 box if u keep the inner cv joints in the box and just swap the shafts ,, my mates been tracking his 20lt zetec on a 1300 box for about a year and it was always quicker aff the mark than my 20lt with a rs1800 box

Personally, I'd use your entire existing driveshafts.

I'm pretty sure there's a difference between the splines at the hub end between MK3s and MK3.5s.

There's no difference between the gearboxes where your inner CV joints fit - just use your existing shafts for simplicity! I'm 'reasonably' certain the small engine MK3.5s had much stronger driveshafts than small engine MK3s... And that said, I seriously abused my MK3 1.1 shafts for five years before I killed an inner CV joint! I think you'll be fine for some time :)

As an added note, my RS Turbo shafts do not fit in my MK3 1.1 joints... Whether they'd fit in MK3.5 ones, I don't know? Just another reason to keep things simple and stick with what you've got!
