Dump Valves

Does a dump valve actually help the engine in any way or is it jus their for noise???? :???:

I think it help's but i don't really know, i havent got a turbo :grin:

Well, it releases Pressure that would else wise push back against the turbine blades and therefor slow them down... and stall the turbo

so it prolongs turbo wear


is that right? :???:

Moosey got it absolutely correct :smile: but it doesn't "prolong" turbo wear, it helps to "prevent" it :grin:

The small T2 on the FRST doesn't really need it, but if running more than usual boost, a D/V would be good idea :smile: anything to try and prevent a bill for £600 for a new turbo sounds good to me :wink:

Damp valves arent really necessary...all they are stopping is the back pressure from the turbo shattering its blades...the pressure instead of going back to the turbo and stalling it, will be released into the atmosphere...not only that, because of this people also say that the turbo keeps spinning inbetween gear changes so that the turbo kicks straight in when the accelerater is pressed as they dont need to spin back up
