Duratec question

Postby KEVFRST on Thu Jan 26, 2006 3:56 pm

Am I right in thinking the Duratec engine, as found in all the new focus etc is the same as the 14 engine as in the MK6 RS2000 and galaxys?

No mate, totally different. It's the all alloy Duratec-HE, the old RS2k engine was labelled the 'I4' and had an iron block.

Also the new duratec Is belt driven, While the RS2000 is Chain driven, like the new toyota 1.8.

Bloody Duratecs, about as bad as Zetecs! Take your pic, 2.0 Duratec inline 4, 2.3 Duratec inline 4, Duratec V6s and V8s. Zetec badges are slapped on everything too, including cars that don't even have Zetec engines in them! Stoopid Ford

Its now a trim level not an engine, and i'll think you find the fiesta 'zetec' has a zetec engine :P (non facelift anyway)

It is indeed a trim level, and yes, some Mk6 Fiesta Zetecs have "Zetec" engines, but some don't, eg the diesel!

The rs2000 and the 8v version found on sierras and granadas I4 are the duratec's parents... they also inhabited mazda 323's 626's and 929's. 2.3 duraHE are mazda 6 engines BUT spare engines have mazda or ford marks logos or things stamped on the block or cam cover visible on the outside! not sure why they do that. The 2.3 dura's the size of a zetec so thecnicaly it should fit in the same space BUT as regards mountings i don't have any ideas.

Has enyone seen the bloody valves the 2.3 come out with????? HUGE!

Yep thanks to stricter emissions standards we get huge ports and big valves, 2.3 is nice but well undersqaure and not as willing to rev as the 2.0 (great engine!).

imho the extra torque compensates for the 1k less revs...

well the same 2.3 is in the mazda 6 MPS.
2.3 Turbo 4 wheel drive, puts out 270 bhp (JDM spec anyway)
Id prefer one of these to a ST

Mate i told you, don't just look for fords, mazda 6's and some other mazdas have that same exact lump :D so widen your search... and if you can't find one with the ecu try a megasquirt or similar aftermarket brainbox.
