Your earth wire is actually as important as your power wire in terms of where it runs to.

All of my professional installs which I have done, have had the earth wire run back to the negative terminal on the battery, just like the power cable running to the positive.

ive thought if ya do it like that ya get the sound of the alternator coming thru ya speakers aswell as a friend did it and he had this problem.

erm basically the whole car body acts as and earth so in proper terms as long as you earth your amp to a clean unpainted part of the cars chassis then it would work fine

and interference is usually becos power cable and speakers wires are crossed so signal is interferred

mines earthed on one of the two bolts that holds the rear seat in place on one side of the seat - i think it was a while ago now.

dont have the earth lead be longer than about 12"...rear seat bolt is fine...i have my 3 batteries, and amps earthed there

never run back back to the battery as apparently its more prone t pick up noise and if battery is in from the cable is as long as the positive  :o

Personally I would say its a bit overkill earthing back to the battery, especially if the amp is in the boot, although in this case its probably ok.
