ecu/management when chaning 1.8xr2i to 2.0 zetec

hi evryone im currently sourcing info/parts etc to to a 2.0 conversion asap everthing seems straight forward apart from the management system. Do I need to change the loom/ ecu also do I need the red key as I dont have one! all help appreciated cheers

yes the edis on an 1800 xr is different to that of a mondeo so change the engine loom to an si one and its plug asnd play once youve swapped a few things from your current engine over

ok thanks for that. Some people said they have run there 1800 xr2i on the original 1.8 ecu so im guessing they are still using the original xr2i loom? or am I getting things mixed up? Im definate that other people doing a conversion from a 1.8 xr2i have used the 1.8 ECU.... anyother help appreciated! or someone to help clear this up as im starting to get confused? thanks

your right yes, the ecu for the mondeo has internal edis and the xr one has external. you need to change the engine loom for an si one or fine an early external edis rs1800 ecu to run the 2ltr. the 1800 one might do it but will misfire at high revs
