efi conversion staring issue

Problem or technical question?

efi conversion staring issue

Postby blackbeautyzetec on Sun Jun 15, 2014 5:27 pm

Just converted my mfi. I go to start the engine and it starts after a while but only holdes the revs for about 2 sec and dies. I started it with throttle and will run at higher revs but sometimes will die while thottle is pressed.

Unsure of what would cause this.

What management, frst or atmospheric? What engine? What fuel pressure are you running? We need some more info. It could be map sensor related...

Running OFAB. Mfi engine with all the FRST parts.

Talking about map sensor.... I just have a pipe running to it and not the valve part but I dont know if that was the problem.

The valve you are referring to is not a valve, it is a fuel trap, it protects map sensor circuitry from fuel droplets. It is not necessary for the sensor's functionality, it is most a precaution measure. What worries me is that when you installed the engine loom, accidentaly by mixing the two plugs, engine loom plug and injector loom plug, what is frayed usually is the 5V reference circuit, which feeds the TPS,map sensor and CO pot. These are extremely importand regarding engine running and safe running of the engine, since they regulate fuelling. I would start checking these, as I had the same problem with the transplant in a friend's mk4 which I describe in another thread. The electrician who made the transplant, did know s**t, I mean it is normally to make such mistakes when you, me, we are car enthusiasts. But electricians are pro's, they don't justify to do such tragic mistakes. Perhaps you have the same problem.
