On a standard or mildly modified engine you will lose some economy if you remove the EGR.

There's a guide in the Guides / FAQs Section

search for pulse air system or blanking plugs and you will find it!

I had a spare zetec escort manifold that I swapped for my one with EGR

You won't gain any power by removing the EGR.

From what I have seen throttle response is improved, as is some mid range torque. Does seem to vary from car to car though with some having a notable effect and others virtually no noatable difference

i removed the egr from my 2.0 a few days ago and can confirm it improves the throttle response. i have no idea whether it increases bhp or not, but for the sake of a few quids worth of washers and bolts its one of the cheapest and easiest mods ive done so far

You might find that 'improved throttle response' you are feeling is down to too much spark advance (the ecu runs more advance when EGR gases are added). These leads to a couple of thoughts, firstly you might get pinging because of the advance being wrong, and, secondly, the ecu might drop this additional advance once it figures out the EGR isn't working and you'll be no better off.

I would think it would run with more retard with the EGR connected due to the dirty gasses being put back through the system. Not found any issues on the dyno with EGR's being blanked off and certainly not experienced any pinking

EGR lowers the combustion temperature (hence the reduced NOx emissions) and slows the burn rate which results in the need for more spark advance.

With the hangover I have I can't even begin to try and think about technical stuff. As said though we've not experienced any pinking issues on cars that we have removed the EGR from
