electric window is stuck!!!
Hi
My passenger side electric window on my mk4 fiesta has been a bit slow for a while but i rolled it all the way down yesterday and it wouldnt go back up, i think the switch is ok because the light comes on and it wont go up using either switches. it sounds like the motor is workin when you click the switch to go down but it wont move the window to go up.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Ryan

Re: electric window is stuck!!!
Sounds like the wire cable has broken and when that happens the broken end of the cable that pulls it up jams up in the mechanism . You need to remove the door card and check .
you can buy a new Window Regulator quite cheaply on the net compared to a genuine ford item.

Not sure what the door structure is like on mk 4 door or if the motor is the same but on mk 3 remove the three bolts holding the motor in place, drop it down slightly and check the cables inside the sleeves.
You can if your brave
undo cover plate of motor assembly. inside is a spool (missing from pic) that the cable winds around. if the cable is broken there should be a broken end inside but also check to see if cable is jammed on the teeth of gear wheel

The equivelent ford item was £100 more

As far as I know they're different lengths so no. Not as in height but the 2-door windows are obviously longer than the 4-doors.ryan_u89 :ok il have a look 2maro. will a 4 door front passender side regulator fit the 2 door front passenger side?
I know someone who put a 2-foor mech in a 4-door and they had to cut it lol.

so surely the 4 door mech "would" fit but it would be too short to support the whole window.

Possible, but not entirely sure if both the window fastening holes and the mech holes would all line upedders :so surely the 4 door mech "would" fit but it would be too short to support the whole window.

well if the 3 door mech will fit in a 5 door then it should logically go the other way around? doesnt matter really.

Not sure if that's the case as the regulator assembly bolts to the door and so does the motor but they are attached by the cable. If the cable is long enough then fair play but there must be a reason why Ford made two types.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

Re: electric window is stuck!!!
you say its been slow and now stopped, are you sure the guide rubber for the window hasnt poped in inside the door and jammed it up?
also, to make a window that goes slow get back up to speed, you need to lube the guides, spray back to black in the guides where the window slides, as its silicon based this lubes the glass so a slow window will speed up again.
i know it might be too late for that now in this case but worth bearing in mind should it happen again

Read your post... and my window is a bit slow, especially when going up. with what do I lube the guides? Also what exactly does 'spray back to black in the guides' mean?

"Back to Black" is a silicone based product that will lubricate the window guides.

Re: electric window is stuck!!!
i know I guess I should be opening my own topic, but my problem is also that the window like tilts forward, and if I hold it so that it stays in its normal position (not slightly tilted), it will go up quite smoothly.
Never heard of 'back to black', I'll see if its available locally [ERRR] i live in Malta. Is it a brand 'Back to Black'?

yeh u should but il let u off. got it sorted, it turns out the motor/regulator was fine but it was the switch on the drivers side door, one pin wasnt in contanct, stopping the passenger side window going up.
it was a bit of a waste of time taking it all a part but at least i know how it all works now!
got it all back togethor finally but now when you press down button the window goes up and up the window goes down haha. any ideas? iv checked the plug etc but cant work it out!
Cheers

Re: electric window is stuck!!!
back to black is a polish stuff for black trim, which over time goes grey and it does what it says on the tine, spray it on, and as its silicon based it makes it always look wet, i.e black not grey, and most car places sell it
to see it check here
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SIMONIZ-BACK-TO-B ... dZViewItem
or buy a silicon spray, it does the same sort of thing but its tinned up as a lube, like this stuff
