engine conversion on a 1.1 advice!!
right, im really considering and engine transplant on my car but dont know TOO much about it and need some advice!! I want an FRST engine, with all the usual tuning bits (exhaust, cams, filter etc). First of all,
what are the common problems i'll be facing eg. technical etc.?
would i be better to buy a whole FRST and transplant everything over?
[ERRR] all will i need to change? ive made a list of what i thought so far, if anything needs added to this please tell me!
engine and gearbox (obviously!)
axles, suspension arms
suspension
exhaust
brakes
[ERRR] kind of cost are u looking at for an AVERAGE conversion (eg. not mega power!, just about 200 bhp or so!)
my car is a 94 1.1 lx mk3.5. Does this have a different suspension setup?? and if so [ERRR] kit do i go for that wil withstand RST power.
cheers, any tips suggestions and contacts (im in northern ireland) wil be greatly appreciated.

200 bhp is a helluva lot of power from the 1600 CVH engine and the chances are you will need to run the Escort T3 turbo with an FRST engine.
Ideally, buy a crash damaged FRST and swap the bits over, but I made up a list of the stuff you'd need on here around xmas time too.

not worth the hassel mate!! I should know i said never again when i blew the 1.1 and put a 1.6 on carbs in! but then that went pop so had to and went turbo and finding all the parts and fitting them is a right nightmare and ive just about had enough and its not even finished!!
anyway - 200 bhp needs one hell of a lot of worjk and money put into the engine to get that and you will need a T3 off of an escort! - IanFRST has over 200 so talk to him bout whats involved.
But if yo wanna go ahead get an FRST thats been rear ended or side impact damage! so you have the loom ecu, engine and all the rest - but bear in mind at 200 bhp the suspension and breaks could do with uprating further!! ie lowereed and stiffer dampers and prob cozzie breaks!!

not worth the bother, why spend probally well over a 2 grand on putting the rst engine in a fiesta when you can just buy one.
you need everyting, ecu, wiring loom, suspension, mounts.
If your gonna do an engine transplant you may as well put something really scary in it like a 2.0 zvh turbo or cossy fwd. Your looking at about £7000 to convert it to 4wd.

artfulmatt - i don't know where you got that figure from but it seems one hell of a lot . i got quoted £650 for an erst engine fitted into my fezzy (ecu, gearbox, loom). i know it has different management 'n' that but i wanted to be different.
This engine had also been re-conditioned and had a dump valve fitted, this was 2 months ago and i didn't have the money then but i wish i had now.
cheers, A.

I believe that your car will need a cat and the frst didn't have a cat as the frst was pre 92
You probably could get powerflow or some exhaust centre to customise a cat for you for your mot emission test thingy
Sorry i think that is right,
Dave.

you might not need a cat as the rst engine would be before 1992 and this engine does not need one, ask someone who knows though ,
cheers, Adam.

I thought it was the age of the car not the engine
Oh well i might be wrong

I agree with chris on this one. I've had a 1.6 carbed cvh conversion from a 1.1 and i literally had to change everything, but being a tight git bought lots of s/h parts such as hoses, rad, zorst. My garage now resembles a scrappy due to the amount of parts that either broke or were prob about 50/50. Also think twice the budget for little sh!tty parts that cost lots such as engine mounts, hoses, coolant, oil, timing belt getting it set up etc. It's a lot of work though really and am now panicking as to how i'm gonna sell my car as a 5 door 1.6s was only ever produced in Sweden i think!! HPI check anyone?
