Engine conversion

Postby Xr2iJamzie on Tue Dec 19, 2006 3:00 pm

Hi guys, looking to do an engine conversion on my xr2i. Ive kinda narrowed it down to either the FRST engine or a 2L zetec, but im having troulbe making the final decision.

Which would be most cost effective, in terms of BHP and reliability, for my money??

Any ideas, info appreciated.

J :)

ive been considering both of these options for my xr2i aswell, while i imagine the rs turbo conversion should be easier as both engines share more parts than the zetec engines. trouble is finding an rs turbo engine that is reasonable milage and hasnt been ragged all its life is likely to be more difficult than finding a 2.0 in similar condition.
i am still undecided on which of these conversions i want to carry out on mine too.

You need to make a decision.

A) Turbo straight away and relatively cheaply. - CVH Turbo.
B) NA with the same power as option A and the possiblity of turboing later after spending huge amounts of money.

I would usually recommend the 2.0l route, but as you own a CVH I can see your dilema.

Just remember the old phrase - there's no replacement for displacement.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

Turbo engine all the way mate if you get a good one they are reliable and you can get more power if you dont have much to spend but then again if you have never ending pockets full of money i'd say 2.0L and then turbo it.

Depends what you want from the car. If you want something cheap that you can razz about without much concern then it has to be the 2.0 Zetec. For proper power though the CVH turbo is tough to beat and for performance knocks the spots off the Zetec.

If you have to ask about the cost of Zetec Turbo's then you can't afford it.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
