Engine Conversion.

Postby Fezzy Boy on Thu May 15, 2008 12:14 pm

Hi Lads & Ladies,

Don't post on here much, don't have much to say lol. Do browse the forum from time to time, find it a great source of information for all things Fiesta related. Frequented on the most part by honest people, who actually know what they're talking about.
Right enough brown nosing, arse licking I'm finally at a stage in my life where an engine swap is do able. Have owned my car (some pictures on here some where) a '93 1.1 Meridian for about four years, ready for some more power now. Should realistically be able to afford the insurance premium now I have 8 years NCB. In light of rising petrol prices and insurance was thinking of a marginal jump in BHP, have driven a 1.4 16V Zetec '99 Ghia X and found it pretty nippy.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers, Lee.

Thanks. My question is for the outlay of an engine swap shall I just bite the bullet and go for a 2.0 (is this possible). Would probably mean I would have to beg, steal and borrow to pay the insurance though . Thinking this might make sense would save money in the long run, would probably end up replacing the 1400 in a couple of years for more power. Answers/thoughts on a postcard please gents.

Easiest way to do it would be to buy an accident damaged later 1.4 car and swap everything over. Just look at that engine though and compare it to a 2.0. They are totally different, to after the 1.4 you'd probably want to go for a 1.7 puma engine as everything would be there to do that.

On the other hand, go straight to 2.0. It's not that expensive as the engine comes from a group 9 car (Fiesta Si is group 8). For example, a 20 year old living in a low risk area with 2 accidents and 2 years no claims would be £1000, so yours should be a lot cheaper.
