engine conversion

i have a 1.1 litre fiesta which i use for autotesting and it is painfully slow. i have allready fully lightened the bodyshell and took away everything that is not nessesary.
my question is what engine would be the best to put into my fiesta to make it go fast?
i cannot afford or neither do i have the skill to install a turbo or a fuel injected engine.
i was thinking about a 2 litre engine from a sierra paired with the original gearbox. will these bolt together? will this work?
any suggestions?

Nothing's gonna be easy - be prepared for the best-planned conversion to have some kind of hitch when you go to fire it up.
Your best best, to be honest, would be to pick up a rear-ended EFi or SEFi (Zetec) Fiesta Mk3 and transfer all the bits over as this is far more likely to give you good power.
Generally, Sierra lumps are old, knackered, very very heavy, and a complete pain in the arse. The best Sierra lump to go for is the I4 (?), also used in EFi form in the Escort RS2000... but I hear that's not saying much.
Also, wiring is usually already in place for the fuel pump and inertia switch, and the EFI loom simply drops into the engine bay, as does the engine. You'll just need to swap a couple of wires at the fusebox... maybe

good idea but the only thing is i live on an island and there arent many engines or that calibre lying around, which is why i suggested a sierra lump.
i have just sourced a 1.4 cvh engine from a g reg escort, could anyone tell me the sort of performance this gives? i think it fits straight onto the gearbox of my fiesta. the only thing worrying me is the wiring in the electronic ignition. anyone know anything about this?
cheers

seirra lump would be near impossible as it is rear wheel drive, why dont you find and escort with a 1.3 CVH as they are easy to tune using parts from an XR3, or how about a 1.8 16v from a mondeo, these are fast as hell in a huge car like a mondeo, imagine it in a fiesta, shouldnt be too hard to get hold of from a scrappy, not sure of the work needed though....

cheers folks, have just started shifting the 1.4 into the car. think it is going to be rapid enough with the 1.1 gearbox. had a drive in an escort with the 1.4 and it would be quick enough.
mmmm, and the fiesta has about a quarter of the weight, nice.
cheers folks i will post my progress.
