Engine Conversions and Ford Immobilizers

Postby MaXsteri on Tue Mar 18, 2003 2:43 am

We're planning on doing a engine conversion from MK3.5 1.1 to xr2i 8v.

We're just thinking about any problems that we might come across and Festajon suggested the PATS might be a problem?

Does anyone know how the Ford immobilizer is controlled and if it will present a problem?

Maff thinks that if its controlled by the ECU then it wont be a problem, otherwise we will just have to bypass it.

Can anyone confirm what the deal is?

I'll say to you what I said to FestaJon:

Leave the f$*!&@g car loom alone - swap the engine loom and only the engine loom.

When i originally swapped my 1.1 engine for a 1.6 SI engine we came across a problem with ford immobilser,we couldn't bypass or get around had to tow car to ford to have a new key cut..only ford could do this..cost about £40 if i remember rightly..don't know if you'll have same problem with xr2i,did they come out of factory standard or with in built immobilser? Project i take it that the immobilizer shouldnt be a problem if we just swap the engine loom then?

zetecrs i have no idea, i would guess so. Surely i shouldnt need a new key tho? either the 1.1 or 2i one should work depending on how the immobilizer is managed? even if we have to swap ignition barrels? :-?

the only reason to think u would need to get a new key cut is cos the key has built in transponder to trigger the immobilizer,
and it depends if the imobilizer has a serperate unit to work out if ur using right key or if it uses ecu

never known em to use ecu :-?
